Eureka Street Art Festival 2018

August 11-18, 2018
Opera Alley Street Party - Saturday, August 18

Come join us for a colorful week in the street!
The first annual Eureka Street Art Festival is happening August 11 - 18, 2018, with a Street Party on Saturday, August 18th from 12-6.
The Eureka Street Art Festival’s mission is to create intentional, accessible art that enlivens public spaces, stimulates community revitalization, and attracts visitors to Eureka. For the week of the festival, local and international artists will be painting murals and creating street art throughout Downtown and Old Town Eureka, focusing primarily on Opera Alley, which runs between 2nd and 3rd streets in Old Town. On Saturday, August 18th, we will celebrate the completion of the murals with a street fair where the public can enjoy the artwork, talk with artists, enjoy live music and visit our beer gardens along Opera Alley.
Our long term aim is to recreate this event annually and continuously introduce new public art in Eureka. Excess funds raised by the Festival will go towards the maintenance of existing public art throughout the city.

This week long Festival is sponsored by the Black Faun Gallery, Humboldt Cider Company and the City of Eureka and put on by a group of passionate citizens who live and work in Eureka.

The Story

In the summer of 2017 the Black Faun Arts Project commissioned murals by British artists Dan Kitchener (aka DANK) and Duncan Jago (aka Mr Jago). It immediately became clear that our community appreciates the exciting opportunity to witness the creation of large scale works of public art. Crowds gathered every day during the mural painting to see the progress and speak with the artist. Since then, the two Opera Alley murals on G Street have become so regularly photographed for everything from commercial photo shoots to countless selfies, that they are quickly becoming iconic images of this Northwestern California port city. Eureka has always been home to a large number of murals, and the time was right to pull this all together with an organized effort to celebrate our city's public art.
